Finally!

After a long winter and many thousands of casts and swings, I finally hooked and landed a winter steelhead.
My new fishing friend, Scott Lyke took me to the Siletz river where he was sure I could get the skunk off of my winter steelhead woes.
The river was absolutely beautiful, besides for all the clearcuts, and the conditions were good. The river was a little lower than Scott likes to see, but we were excited.
Scott hooked a fish almost immediately after wading across the river, but it jumped and was gone just as fast. I had lost a few flies to snags and thought it was time to move on when I got hung up again. But then my rod bent double and I realized I was into a very strong fish. He bullied me around for a good stretch but never took off on any blistering runs. I was happy about that, because if I had to chase him downriver with my worn out felts, I am sure I would have taken a swim! So after a very good forearm workout, I was able to tail this vey nice native male.
I can't wait for next winter!
Did I just say that? What a idiot.
